Valley Focus: Daughter of Muhammad Ali Headlining Fresno Event
You have the chance to meet the daughter of the late, great Muhammad Ali.
She's speaking at an event in Fresno designed to engage and inspire women. Maryum Ali will speak at the 6th Annual Women of Color Business Symposium on October 26, 2019, in Fresno. Tara Lynn Gray is the CEO of the Fresno Metro Black Chamber of Commerce which is hosting the event. She sat down with Valley Focus host, Liz Harrison October 10, 2019 to talk about the event and the mission of FMBCC.
The Fresno Metro Black Chamber of Commerce short film "Capital G" has been selected for 2019 The Big Tell film contest presented by Central Valley Community Foundation and CMAC . The Big Tell film contest chooses ten local filmmakers to produce mini-documentaries about life in the Central Valley; stories that shine a light on the incredible people and places that make our region so extraordinary. These mini-docs will premiere on Friday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. at the Tower Theatre. "Young, Gifted and Black: A Community Conversation"
Watch as a panel of experts examine black youth in the Central Valley and the programs and mentors that help them thrive. One of our chamber members had the opportunity to share some of her experiences as a gifted black student and the challenges she faced. The conversation is stimulating and the narratives of our students are enlightening and encouraging. Tune in!
The Fresno Metro Black Chamber of Commerce is settling in with new leadership and a focus on transportation and improving the plight of women entrepreneurs.
After Tate Hill stepped down as president in 2016, the Fresno Metro Black Chamber of Commerce went through a full year with an interim CEO. This meant that without a permanent position, fundraising was limited, costing the chamber potential money in the tens of thousands of dollars, according to Tara Lynn Gray, president of the chamber.
